Darcy, our dedicated expert, passionately advocates for the pivotal role of physiotherapy in identifying movement dysfunction and restoring optimal posture. No, you do not need a veterinary referral to see a physiotherapist at Winning Stride Physiotherapy. However, a physiotherapist is not able to provide a veterinary diagnosis. If you believe that your horse is lame please contact your local vet. Your veternerian can then refer onto as a physiotherapist where required. As a physiotherapist we will provide a functional diagnosis to work alongside your vet.
During your first appointment at Winning Stride Physiotherapy, your physiotherapist will thoroughly assess your condition to determine the best course of treatment. This may include a physical examination, discussion of your medical history, and questions about your symptoms and goals.
The time it takes to see changes with equine physiotherapy can vary based on the horse's condition and how well they respond to the treatment. In many cases, you may start to notice improvements within a few sessions, but for more chronic issues or complex conditions, it might take several weeks or even months of consistent therapy. It's essential to work closely with your physiotherapist, follow their recommendations, and be patient as the horse progresses. Every horse is unique, so the timeline for improvement can differ from one individual to another.

Absolutely, I prioritize a collaborative approach with all members of your horse's healthcare team, including veterinarians, bodyworkers, chiropractors, osteopaths, acupuncturists, saddle fitters, and farriers. Each professional plays a crucial role in maintaining your horse's health, and by working together, we can address a comprehensive range of factors that contribute to your horse's well-being.
Collaborating with bodyworkers allows us to align our efforts in promoting muscular balance and addressing soft tissue issues. Working alongside chiropractors and osteopaths enables us to integrate musculoskeletal adjustments into the broader treatment plan, ensuring a holistic approach to your horse's physical health.
Additionally, coordination with acupuncturists and other complementary therapy providers allows us to explore diverse modalities that can contribute to your horse's comfort and performance. By pooling our knowledge and experience, we can tailor a comprehensive treatment plan that considers all aspects of your horse's health, from the structural and muscular to the energetic and holistic.
Collaborating with saddle fitters is essential, as the fit of the saddle profoundly influences your horse's musculoskeletal health. A well-fitted saddle contributes to proper biomechanics and comfort, aligning with the goals of physiotherapy. Through open communication with saddle fitters, we can ensure that the saddle supports your horse's physical condition and doesn't contribute to any discomfort or issues.
Similarly, coordination with farriers is vital for the overall soundness of your horse. The alignment of the hooves and the horse's musculoskeletal system are interconnected. By working closely with farriers, I can contribute insights on how the horse's body responds to different hoof angles and provide recommendations to support the musculoskeletal system during the physiotherapy process.
I am committed to maintaining a cohesive healthcare team to address your horse's needs comprehensively. By sharing information, insights, and observations with all relevant practitioners, we can create a tailored and integrated treatment plan.
I suggest allowing your horse a 24-hour period of rest without any ridden work following the treatment; however, individual cases may vary, and specific recommendations will be discussed during the appointment
