Welcome to Winning Stride Physiotherapy Physiotherapy

What is Equine Physiotherapy?

Equine physiotherapy, also known as horse physio, is a specialised discipline focused on improving the physical well-being of horses through the adept application of various physiotherapy techniques, aiming to enhance their health, mobility, and overall functionality.

Treatment techniques include:

- Massage therapy

- Trigger point release therapy

- Myofascial release

- Stretching exercise

- Joint mobilisations

- Dry needling

- Kinesiology taping

- Heat and cold therapies

- Targeted, therapeutic exercises

Physiotherapy Session

Assessment and evaluation: Equine physiotherapy begins by assessing the horse's overall condition, including its posture, gait, range of motion, and specific problem areas. This assessment helps in identifying areas of muscle tension, joint stiffness, and other issues that require attention.

Rehabilitation Programmes

Our team of physiotherapists provide a range of rehabilitation programmes via Equi Motions app EQ Active. You will have a video of the exercises to complete in-between sessions.

This may involve:

- Pole Work

- Stretches

- Ridden exercises

- Ground work exercises

Pre-habilitation

Equine physiotherapy should be used as a proactive approach to equine healthcare to identify and address minor issues before they escalate into more significant problems.

Performance

Equine physiotherapy is often used to improve the performance of competition horses. By addressing biomechanical issues, improving muscle balance, and optimizing overall physical health, physiotherapy can contribute to better athletic performance.

Rehabilitation

Equine physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of horses recovering from injuries, surgeries, or medical conditions. The physiotherapist works in conjunction with veterinarians to develop and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.
